Howlin' Roosters Studio Update

Oceanside, California’s The Howlin’ Roosters are finishing up their upcoming EP as we speak! The Roosters tracked out in Garden Grove with our friend Eric Ortiz who is an extremely gifted engineer. I received the raw files and they already sound amazing, I can’t wait to start mixing this record.

The punk rock and roll trio is fronted by Dylan Jones on guitar and vocals, Colt Koons on the upright bass and Austin Gillman on drums. We all grew up in the same area of southern California so I’ve always held this band particularly close to me. Dylan and I were in the first version of The Devil’s Troubadours together back in 2013 and I can remember watching Austin shred on the drums way back when he was just a kid.

Several groups of us would skate around parking lots and backyard mini ramps together and as we got older we’d eventually land at the local dive bar (that I would occasionally get thrown out of) all while constantly being in bands. Fun small town shit like that. I think that’s why Dylan’s writing is so easy to relate to, it comes from a part of him that is that kid runnin’ around town doing god knows what having the time of his life. It’s sincerity is what it is. And I hear it on this EP and I see it on stage. They’re the real fuckin’ deal man.

They’re playing at Black Plague Brewery in Oceanside Saturday, May 18th at 8pm. And if you can’t make that they’ll be at Larry’s Beach Club on May 25th. So you have no excuse! Unless you live 1,000 miles away like me, then that’s a pretty good excuse. Go see them!
