We’re back! New record from Brazil's End of Pipe!

Oh hey! I know I don’t have to tell you how crazy these last few months have been. And honestly.. I’m lucky to be living through a pandemic with a recording studio in my backyard. So I have no room to complain. I’ve taken a short break on writing and I’ve just been sitting back, engineering and taking in the changes that the world is going through. I think that’s important. I think critical observation is important especially if you are planning on opening your mouth on a public platform. Right? Maybe that’s just me idk.
I wanted my first article back to be on someone I really, really respected and as I was coming to that conclusion End Of Pipe from Brazil dropped a killer record “Mass Hysteria”.

I met these guys back in 2016 when they came through Twilight in Portland. If I remember correctly The Devil’s Troubadours closed out the show and we hung out and picked up some merch from them. They immediately grabbed my attention by how sincere and kind they were and I’ve been following their band ever since.
I really dig their version of melodic punk. On one hand they are a bit reminiscent of old skate punk and the Full Circle era of Pennywise with songs like their opener and title track “Mass Hysteria” and on the other they capture the essence of bands like Propagandhi and The Deviates with some progressive melodic riffs on “Lost Cause” and “The Secret”. The bass riffs Rafael Censi backs up the guitar leads with are very musical and give the arrangements of the songs vibrant color as they weave in between verses and choruses and back to main licks and solos.
The entire record is intertwined with harmonies throughout and I fucking love it. Uirá Medeiros is a killer lyricist and those harmonies make his words pop out at you in the best way possible.
This mix is damn near perfect in my opinion,  recorded at Undercave Studio (São José / SC) by Marlon Ramos and was mixed and mastered in Chicago (USA) by Mark Michalik.
The drums sit in the mix really well. When the leads come in on a three piece in other instances a lot of the time it can sound empty especially when there is a huge chorus or bridge right before it. But in this case the drums and bass continue to back the guitar fluently on the whole record and the dynamics of the mix don’t skip a beat. (I know, lame dad joke but I have a nine year old so I’m going to get them in while I still can haha). It’s clear to me that Victor Berretta is an awesome drummer and that is every engineers dream.
I rate this record 100,000 out of 100,000 stars. Released on Electric Funeral Records (Brasil) Takeover Records (United States)
Mevzu Records (Turkey) check it out on all online platforms and head over to http://www.endofpipe.com.br/ to check out what these dudes are up to!
